Friday Night
Since you want to be knee deep in iconic Melbourne sights and sounds, head to Hosier Lane and the surrounding laneways to see amazing graffiti murals that you will no doubt recognise from Instagram. Walk across the street to get a glimpse of Federation Square and the Flinders Street Station before you start to think about dinner. When hunger strikes, you’ve got to head straight to Chin Chin. This Melbourne institution WILL rock your world, so make sure you wait out the line. Grab a drink at the Cherry Bar downstairs before hot footing it back to your hotel for the night – you’ll need your rest for a big day of eating tomorrow!
Saturday
You must start your day with a croissant from Lune Croissanterie which has been named as the best in the world by the New York Times. Head to Fitzroy and get in line, trust us, it will be worth it when that flaky pastry is filling your mouth.
Make your way back to the city and take a wander through the Royal Botanic Gardens, home to 8,500 plant species. You’ll forget the hustle and bustle of the city for a while and emerge ready to shop! Head to Flinders Lane for some of the best shopping in the city, where big brands like Aesop, Incu and Zomp sit side by side with the smaller indie brands that Melbourne is known for. A word to the wise – don’t expect too much in terms of colour in Melbourne shops – city dwellers are known for their love of black! Be sure to stop by Craft which stocks wares from local artisans and makers as well as gallery exhibitions and events.
Once you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped, you’ll want to replenish yourself with something delicious. Head across the river to Fatto and enjoy the city lights, take a stroll through South Bank and stop by Cumulus Inc. for a beverage before heading back to your hotel to crash.
Sunday Morning
Head to the Queen Victoria Market for baked goods and coffee then jump on a tram and head to St Kilda. Ogle the cakes in the windows along Acland Street – these are no ordinary bakeries!
