Victoria is bordered by New South Wales to the north, South Australia to the west, and Tasmania to the south, across the Bass Strait. Victoria is the most densely populated state, and has a highly centralised population, with over 70% of Victorians living in Melbourne, the state capital and largest city.

A region of interest is the Great Ocean Road, which features The Twelve Apostles, historic towns of Port Fairy and Portland, cliffs and whale watching and resort towns such as Lorne. The Victorian Alpine Region, part of the Australian Alps, particularly for skiing and the Central Victorian Highlands, 'Highcountry' are very well known for winter sports and bushwalking.
